Freelance Writer, Me?

By | July 8, 2008

I do not consider myself a freelance writer.

Freelance writers are those people who query magazines and spend umpteen dollars on postage for oversize envelopes just to get a ‘No thanks, we can’t use this idea’ in the mail in six months.  Freelance writers apply for jobs, or stalk writer’s job posting boards bidding on work.

I don’t do any of that.  Does that mean I’m not a freelance writer?

My main job title, if forced to specify, would be ‘internet marketer.’  That includes an awful lot of writing.

Of course, I do also write web content and keyword articles for paid content sites such as eHow and Associated Content.  I like making money with my writing.

I still don’t consider myself a freelance writer.

The point is that it doesn’t matter what you call yourself, or what you focus on the majority of the time.  If you intend to make money on the internet, you are either going to have to write, or pay someone to write for you.  What you call yourself just doesn’t matter.

Should You Pay for Article Submission Services?

By | July 3, 2008

Article submission services come in two varieties: manual and automatic. The end goal of both is to get your articles on many article directories without you having to do it yourself. In the first article submission type, another human submits your articles. In the second, an online program submits them automatically after you plug in all pertinent information. Both cost money.

Should you pay for article submission services?

Article Submission – Do It Yourself

Article marketers know that it is important to get keyword-specific articles on many directories to advertise websites and blogs. Doing it yourself seems to be the most cost effective way to get this done. All you have to spend is time.

For the beginning marketer, doing it yourself makes the most sense. Risking as little money as possible on a new venture reduces the possibility of losing it all. Gather a list of article directories and just load them all to submit your article by copying and pasting.

Article Submission – Paid Manual

Pay manual article submission gets you the same service as submitting the articles yourself. You are just paying another person to do it. Of course, the end result depends on whether the person does the job the right way or not. Assuming they do, manual article submission is a top choice for busy internet marketers whose time would be better spent in development or other marketing methods.

While article marketers can search for manual article submission services, a less expensive method of finding people who do this work is to visit the big business forums such as SitePoint. These forums have sections where freelancers are available for various tasks, including manual article submission. Prices are negotiable.

Article Submission – Paid Automatic

Paid automatic article submission is usually cheaper than manual, but comes with some problems. If the software messes up, there is nothing to stop it from messing up your articles. While errors may be infrequent, automatic article submission services might leave out parts of the submission process. For example, some article directories want keywords listed with a space between while others want you to use a comma.

The choice to pay for article submission services should be made carefully. The amount you want to invest, the number of articles you have to submit, and how many directories you want to target are important considerations. Ultimately, deciding whether to pay for article submission depends on how much time you want to spend vs. how much money you want to spend.
